(More customer reviews)So Ryobi has made an incredible name for itself by putting out usable tools at half the price of the major competitors, even the Japanese companies.Their products aren't as good as, say, Makita, but they are way cheaper and in most cases they are usable.In this case, though, they were pushing it.Who would think that a tiny table saw, 10" blade, and a half-plastic housing, would be anything other than a joke, like when you order a "life size monster" from the back of a comic book and it turns out it is just a poster?

Well, this actually works.You aren't going to be planing boards with it, but for conventional cabinetry work, or where you may be making a large number of identical rips, this really is a great help.And most importantly, it can be large enough (with the table stand set up) to balance a reasonably long piece of wood (though too much weight will knock it right over).At the same time, it is small enough to disappear into a corner.And it is cheap enough to disappear in your checking account.

And frankly, this is important for many of us; our lady friends are happy to have us fix a cabinet drawer, but not to have us come home with a $450 saw that needs a vacuum hose to clear out the dust and takes up half the basement.This allows the best of both worlds.

Of course, if you want to work on larger pieces, you cannot cut them straight with a table this small.Even if you make ad hoc supports, with a 10" blade there's just too much accumulated error.In my case, there were some projects that would have paid for themselves with a proper table saw.But what can you do?The person who owns the house calls the shots, even if they're self-defeating in the long run!That's the general rule of private property, I guess.And if, like many of us, that shot-calling person doesn't want large tools appearing, this Ryobi is an excellent compromise.
