(More customer reviews)Using a 7/8" spade bit I managed to fry the variable speed controller in my Ryobi P200 18V cordless drill.The bit jammed several times which was more than the controller could handle.I've been very happy with the drill but apparently there's no overload protection ... one way Ryobi keeps the price down, I guess.

I debated ordering a new part or replacing the drill but upon discovering Amazon had the part (through an associated store) at a very reasonable price I decided to order one.

I was a little apprehensive about the number of pieces that would fly out when pulling the right shell but as it turned out the motor, gearbox, clutch and chuck are on monolythic assembly and all that was needed was to hold the motor down using a small screwdriver through the cooling slot to keep everything seated in the left shell.

The switch assembly comes completely pre-wired and includes shrink tubing and even a length of solder.Replacement requires unsoldering the motor wires, removing the old switch, soldering wires from the new switch, sliding the heat shrink tubing over the motor terminals, shrinking it and pressing the switch into it's molded pocket.Align the reversing and gear change controls, replace the right side shell, reinstall the screws and you're done.The job took less than a half hour and the drill works like new.

One caution:The switch assembly includes the battery connector.Be extra careful to keep the red & black wires oriented correctly.Make a note before you remove the old switch assembly.Same goes for the red & black wires to the motor.

While the part is very reasonably priced, shipping costs put the total at almost $20 but it arrived quickly and it's cheaper than buying a new drill.
